From structural surprises to pandemic delays, Klasik Construction persevered to deliver Sushi Hall. Collaborating with the owner and design team, we transformed a challenging space into a modern, street-style sushi destination, reflecting the vision of both the chef and owner.
The Sushi Hall project presented Klasik Construction with a unique set of obstacles. With early planning, design, and budgeting stages happening in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, once underway with construction the project was further complicated by unforeseen structural and utility issues within the aging building. From roof repairs and additional floor supports to broken plumbing and electrical service limitations, each challenge demanded creative solutions and required meticulous project management.
Navigating these hurdles, particularly during a harsh winter, required close collaboration with the owner, who also happened to be the landlord. This dual role, coupled with some operational conflicts, added another layer of complexity to the project. Despite these challenges, Klasik Construction maintained a positive momentum, minimizing downtime and coordinating effectively with the City of Chicago and utility providers.
The vision for Sushi Hall was to create a unique and approachable sushi restaurant with a modern, street/underground Japanese vibe. Working closely with the design team and Chef Mitch Kim, formerly of Toro Sushi, Klasik Construction brought this vision to life. The resulting space is a testament to the team's resilience and dedication, a vibrant addition to the Lincoln Park community that embodies the spirit of modern Japanese dining. Sushi Hall stands as a testament to Klasik Construction's ability to overcome adversity and deliver exceptional results, even under the fairly challenging circumstances.
